Science Project Competition 2002

Students are expected to exhibit their understanding
of scientific knowledge and demonstrate the application of it through
the compilation of science projects. Such projects should be of originality
and innovativeness, and be practical and applicable to real-life situations.
A project may be in the form of - |
(i) |
An invention (Type A project): A new and original product created
by the students, utilizing their scientific knowledge as well as imagination.
The product should be demonstrated to be workable. |
(ii) |
An investigation of scientific phenomena or application of scientific
theories (Type B project): This can be in the form of a paper report,
with the support of experimental data and results. |
An entry that has been submitted to other competitions or exhibitions
in the previous school years is acceptable provided that the entry
has not obtained any award. Entries submitted to other competitions
or exhibitions in the current school year will also be accepted. Relevant
details of the entry should be clearly stated in the entry form. |
If a participant has sought advice/assistance from any person, including
his/her guiding teacher and assigned advisor, he/she should clearly
acknowledge such act in the entry form. |

B. Synopsis
* |
Each entry must be accompanied by a brief

and 1,500 words for Chinese |

The Champion and Runners-up might be given
an opportunity to participate in an overseas visit. They
might be required to present their winning projects in
English during the visit |

B. Synopsis

Each entry must be accompanied by a brief
synopsis explaining the background, research methodology,
investigation and conclusion |

The synopsis should be written in English
/ Chinese and should not exceed 1,000 words for English
and 1,500 words for Chinese |

The Champion and Runners-up might be given

might be required to present their winning projects in

C. Format

An actual device or a model not bigger than
90cm x 90 cm x 90 cm with an explanatory paper with technical
drawings setting out the details of the entry; or |

A computer programme to be demonstrate through
a personal computer |

A report accompanying the investigation
project should be typewritten in double-space in English
/ Chinese on A4-sized papers |

Such report should not exceed 3,000 words
in English or 4,500 words in Chinese |
* |
Such report should include relevant drawings,
photos, tables, charts, etc to support the text |
